From the AA News, “Trial under way for EMU rape suspect.” Of course, this is not the same case as the current Orange Taylor case regarding the Dickinson murder. I had kind of forgotten about this case and the circumstances for why James Holland Jr. was being charged with rape and a series of other crimes around EMU and Ypsilanti in 2005. Basically, Taylor (oops– I meant Holland) confessed to these crimes while in jail for an attempted murder for something else.

You mean Holland confessed? Not Taylor.
Oops– my bad. Yes, I mean HOLLAND confessed, not Taylor. I’ll change that later when I can….
Good work EMU PD and Washtenaw County Major Crimes Task Force!

Don’t know what happened there….need an edit option…lol
Two years later, and the man is convicted. Good news indeed, especially for all of his victims and their families and loved ones. The Mark Jeff rape is just one of his many brutal assaults on or near campus.
Your right Wayne, the Major Crime Task force put an amazing amount of effort into this investigtaion, which resulted in solid evidence including a confession. All of the survivors who participated in this case deserve the credit though. Without their testimony, there would hardly be a case. They are brave and incrediably strong.
Let us remember that this is not the end, however. Holland is expected to proceed to trial on his 6 other cases, including two other brutal sexual assaults, homocide and attempted homocide.
Yes Advocate, you are absolutely correct. I would think the testimony from the survivors was certainly what sealed the case. I am sure it was very difficult (and will be very difficult in the upcoming cases) for them to have to re-live those experiences all over again. Holland was also suspected in several other cases, but due to a lack of evidence (or something), he could not be charged. Hopefully he will be convicted in all his pending cases and that may help the people that were not able to charge him with a crime find some closure and justice as well as the other survivors.
It was not my intention to exclude the survivors. I just wanted to throw out a quick statement and get the link posted quickly. I also wanted to give some props to the police in Washtenaw County that have been getting beat up in the media lately (EMU, YPD, and the Sheriff’s).
I hear ya. I didn’t think you intended to. Like you, I wanted to give some props too. It’ s going to be a slow process, but I have faith he’ll be brought to justice. I’ll be interested in his first sentencing.
A little justice…. http://blog.mlive.com/annarbornews/2007/06/rapist_of_emu_student_ordered.html …..hope he gets plenty more on the other cases.
