… but EMUTalk.org might look a little different and confusing off and on for the next couple days. At long-last, I am getting around to upgrading around here. Be patient; all will be well….

Steve, does this mean you are going to go with a green background and web 2.0 reflections like many of the proposed emich.edu web redesigns?
Nah, it just means I’m installing the latest version of WordPress and I am going to also be running some Google Ads to pay the modest bills around here.
FWIW: I think the redesign of the EMU web site(s) are okay, but someone is forgetting that since there are literally thousands of web sites that represent EMU in one fashion or another, making a change– especially as big of a change as I think they are talking about– is a lot more complicated than someone in marketing saying “we like green now.”
I’ve been pondering upgrading WordPress for the emugraphicdesign.com blog, but haven’t really had the time to do it. I’d be curious to know how well it went for you.
FWIW, I too don’t mind some of the redesigns. They are all improvements on what was there now. It is a daunting task ahead of them, but if you look at several other universities, each department, school, library, college, unit, etc. all have a different look and feel to their sites, so I think if they get the core pages and information to match, others may eventually follow.
What I have heard very second/third hand about the institution’s web site overall is that it will eventually be much more CMS-like, probably an interface not unlike WordPress, but one that EMU will pay a ridiculous amount of money for because why on earth would we want to use some sort of open source solution for this stuff?
Anyway, the upgrade to wordpress 2.6 was a piece of cake, Ryan. Back everything up first of course, but give it a shot.
Is there a way to communicate things to the “sitedad” without posting on a page like I’m doing now?
MathGeek: just send me an email at sitedad at emutalk dot com. I am trying to set up a form thing-a-ma-bob that would allow you to write up a message/post and then submit it. But that’s a work in progress.
