Naming the new EMU email system: we can do better, EMUTalk folks!

Like everyone else (I guess?), I received this email today from Pam Young:

“Have Your Say: Help EMU name its new e-mail system”

As announced in May, EMU will introduce a new system for e-mail, calendaring and collaboration beginning in October 2008. The e-mail component will be implemented October 3, with the other components to follow in early 2009. (Complete information is here: www.emich.edu/email)

First off, I’ve got issues with this “as announced in May” bit.  I might be missing something, but isn’t this the first official notice we’ve seen about when the new email system is going to go online?  In fact, I’m pretty sure that this  July 14 EMUTalk.org post was the first time I had heard anything that looked even remotely official about when this new email system was going to come online.

But no matter.

My real issue here is the naming options available.  I think they are all pretty lame.

The official choices are:

EagleMail (please please PLEASE, no more Eagles!)

ECommons (Commons?)

EConnect (My favorite of the choices since I guess you can “connect” with email…)

ESuite (Someone in marketing ought to buy a clue and realize that Internet stuff beginning with “E” (as in “ECommerce”) is kind of mid 1990′s stuff)

GreenMail (Suggests something moldy to me)

Fortunately, there is an “Other” category, so there is a chance– slim though it is– that we will get a name for this new email system that might be interesting and fun.  But only if we can come up with an interesting name.  So, what kinds of ideas do folks have?

I’ll get the ball rolling, just tossing some ideas out there to see what sticks:

EmuMail (Hey, something around here ought to be named after everyone’s favorite flightless bird)

Ican’tbelieveitworksMail (I’m an optimist)

NotquitegoogleMail (and I’m a realist)

Email (because that’s what it is)
