This just in from “Office of the President” Susan Martin:
The new Vice President for Communications and Public Affairs position has been created and a search is underway. I would like to thank Art Timko, Director of WEMU, for accepting the appointment as Interim Vice President for Communications and Public Affairs. He will serve in this capacity until the new Vice President takes office. Molly Motherwell, will serve as Acting Director/General Manager of WEMU until Art Timko returns.
The new Vice President for Communications and Public Affairs position is being funded by combining the two positions of Vice President for Student Affairs and Vice President for Enrollment Management. As previously announced, these positions were combined into one position titled Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management. That search is in its final stages.
Sue Martin
President
By the way, I won’t be applying for that job….

OMG! Art Timko as interim VP. LOL. Mary Motherwell as interim station manager! LOL.
Yes, Art as interim VP is a fine case of the peter principle in practice. When he’s selected as the VP for this new job, it’ll be clear that Jim Vick and his cronies still rule the campus. Art Timko was on the search committee that hired John Fallon, which should have been enough for Art to be let go.
WEMU is stuck in the NPR rut. No change in fund raising style since 1980, just the same old call in format. No capital funds raised for equipment or new building. Same crappy location (King Hall). Motherwell will be the death of the station if she stays as station manager.
Naysayers… this is surely only a temp situation. Geez!
Say, go figure! I just heard today– April 1– that folks on the search committee for this position are interested in making some bold and “out of the box” moves for this job, and they want me to apply. It’d mean closing down EMUTalk.org of course; or maybe this site could be better integrated into the overall marketing strategy.
I don’t know, what do you think?
