I saw an announcement about this from EMU DPS the other day, but here’s the article in annarbor.com: “Eastern Michigan University student’s carjacking claim was fabricated, police say.” Basically, the student who claimed there was someone in her car who she punched out in order escape made the whole thing up. Why? I haven’t a clue.

It seems like this sort of thing happens every year. I recall last year there was a made up report of someone being jumped by LeForge. It probably went mostly unnoticed, because of all of the legitimate reports. I also remember about 5 years back a student at WCC filing a report that they were kid napped by people in a van with curtains in the windows….only to later say she made it up. I think that these people should pay restitution for all of the extra police coverage after a bogus claim.
I agree… with a requirement to pay for and attend therapy.
At the very least they should be charged with filing a false police report.
