How was the Governor? (And an open letter)

I didn’t realize that Governor Jennifer Granholm was going to be on campus so early today, 9 am. I couldn’t have made it if I had remembered though. Did anyone go? How was it?

I also discovered this morning this fine press release on the EMU web site, “An open letter to EMU Students From EMU Student Government.”

6 Responses to How was the Governor? (And an open letter)

  1. Annarbor.com has an article about this here:
    http://www.annarbor.com/news/gov-jennifer-granholm-freeze-on-scheduled-income-tax-cut-being-considered-to-save-scholarships/

Quite a few angry, conservative comments on that blog about this too….

  2. The session was opened by Dr. Martin who introduced the student body president (I do not remember her name). The student body president did a wonderful job summarizing the situation with the promise grant and as the MC for the program. Approximately 6 or 7 EMU students (as well as 1 UofM student) were introduced and shared their stories about the funding of their college degrees. Most came from low income families who were struggling with work and school. Each would be greatly impacted if the promise scholarship was not available. Governor Granholm spoke eloquently and passionately about the promise grant and in bringing more jobs to Michigan. She stated she was given a budget she did not agree with, having 2 options. 1. Fail to sign the budget and shut down government or 2. Sign the budget and fight for things that should be included. She selected option 2. The Governor shared 6 major industries she is focusing on to bring jobs to Michigan; high tech manufacturing, homeland security products, alternative fuels and energy (batteries, windpower), tourism and 2 other sectors that escape me. She stated that all of this will be impossible to implement without a highly trained work force. She hopes to double the number of college graduates (junior college, tech programs and 4 year grads). She sees an effective education infrastructure as an important feature of bringing good paying jobs to Michigan. She finished by imploring the group to contact their legislators and to apply grass roots pressure to retain the promise grant. The Governor seemed genuinely angry that this part of the budget has been eliminated and said it should not be a partisan issue. The session was well-attended with standing room only. The main ballroom was divided however into a smaller space that gave the impression of a much larger crowd although the participation was good. EMU students represented themselves with class.

  3. The Student Body President’s name is Regina Royan, just fyi.

  4. Windpower? Alternative Energy?

What’s the point of any of that now that we all know Global Warming is a HOAX and a ginned up SCAM?

    The e-mails don’t lie.

Those are the e-mails MSNBC does not want you to read… Straight from the same Science Research Center that is used largely by the WORLD and is the source of the UNITED NATIONS claims about Global Warming or Climate Change being caused by humans.

Governor Granholm wants as part of her platform to chase after alternative fuel when we could be Drilling for Oil…. Drilling for Oil creates more jobs and it actually deos not hurt the Earth’s Atmosphere to burn it…. Don’t think we can drill for oil? The Canadian Pipeline north of Michigan is available for Michiganders to Drill…. At least 10,000 possible jobs are available to be generated for Oil Drilling…. Only of Governor Granholm will simply allow it…

Will she???? will she allow drilling? No…. She only wants to talk about worthless spinning WINDMILLS that take up too much space, look hideous, and are extremely noisy…. Windmills do not create jobs…. Drilling does.

Scientists in those e-mails talk about lying to the public about the fact that global temperatures dropped in 1996… The e-mails talk about covering up “The Declines” and essentially make a mockery out of the scientific industry. Academic Universities.. at least 3 of them I am aware of have professors that have been trumping up lies and distortions to push this HOAX about Global Warming for Decades….

The E-mails do not lie…. Governor Granholm should read them on live Television on NBC Local news.. and thene explain why we should put Solar Panels on our roofs and Windmills in our backyards?

  5. Global warming or not…the auto industry is dead in Michigan…time to come up with something else.

  6. Emails you say?

Golly…if he read that on the internet, it must be true!

Outside of climate concerns…clean air and water are so bad of things?
