One of my Facebook “friends” (actually, this person really is a friend) posted this tidbit today: apparently there is a Quidditch match between EMU and Miami of Ohio today at 2 pm someplace on campus (near the soccer fields? I’m not sure).
By the way, the EMU team is known as the “Flying Squirrels.” I’m fine with them not being the Eagles, but duh, shouldn’t that really be the “Flying Emus?”

Have you ever been to EMU’s campus? There are squirrels everywhere! It is known for the squirrels, so they chose a flying squirrel as their mascot. BTW, their colors are also not those of EMU — they are purple and orange. How did this happen? Well, the Quidditch team was formed by some students who were in the Harry Potter club on campus. The name of the club is “The 5th House” and they purposely chose colors which were not already those of any of the 4 houses in the HP books. When they formed the team, it was just logical to use those colors… There you have it, a little bit of EMU Quidditch trivia! Come see the game — it should be great! Perfect Quidditch weather!
So, where’s the match/game/scrum/whatever they call it?
Sorry I didn’t see the post in time to let you know… it was at the soccer field. EMU won! Next weekend they are travelling to Ohio State to play on Saturday. Not sure of the time yet. I think they’ll be having a tournament at EMU on May 15… I’ll keep you posted.
Any pictures or video or anything to post? I’m sort of curious to see what a “real world” quidditch game looks like.
BTW, here’s a link to an article in the Echo about the match:

I’d like to upload pics and video, but can’t find how to do it on here… help?
Kathy, I think the easiest way to do this is to use something like Picassa or Flickr, a site where you can post images and then easily link to them. If you have some questions/issues with that, let me know and I’ll try to help you out– emutalk@gmail.com
