I just heard this on Michigan Public Radio, but here’s where I found a link to the story: from the WLNS web site, here’s a link to the AP story, “Michigan Senate rejects Granholm appointments.” The EMU connection is that this includes the new members of the Board of Regents that Granholm appointed.

“Senate Republicans said the appointments, which were for terms starting next Jan. 1, should be reserved for the next governor.”
What I want to know is how this has been handled in the past. For example, did the 2002 Republican-controlled State Senate approve appointments by Engler to take office 1/1/03, or were those held open for Granholm to fill?
According to a report I just heard on Michigan Public Radio, Engler did indeed approve appointments much in the same way that Granholm is trying to do here.
