EMU rolls out new web site– thoughts?

I don’t know when this happened because I don’t often have a reason to visit EMU’s homepage, but it looks like they’ve rolled out a new site.  My 2 minute poke around impressions are positive.  I don’t like the front page Flash animation for all kinds of different reasons, but I do like that users can chose their own color scheme, a feature I wouldn’t mind adding to EMUTalk.org  And I’m not sure about this, but it appears that the site might finally be powered by some kind of content management system instead of being static web pages.

Anyway, what do folks think?

  1. I used the white option (fewer colors are good; looks like they’re *finally* using EMU green; I hate the graduated borders) and did a little noodling around. I must say it is quite easy to find out things about EMU–the divisions, etc,–as opposed to the previous version.

I’m also gonna play it *real* cautious because, trusting soul that I am,I logged into my.emich.edu on Monday to get some course information for CS lab scheduling. I could tolerate a couple minutes in that arena before the migraine warnings would start.

Monday’s my.emich switch over–which steadily sucked less as the day went on–took me out of commission for 2-3 days due to a prolonged migraine attack triggered by the initial post-login page. They had changed it by the time you looked at it that morning.

I think Rhonda did a very nice job (so far) with what her group handles. The other part(s) of the site? I read someplace medicine has discovered ways to trigger migraines in those who don’t normally get them. Would be nice to return the favor.

  2. The website looks so much better. Much more sophisticated and modern, especially with that ghastly dark green gone. yuck.

  3. I’m not generally a fan of Flash, but I don’t think that is too bad. I was afraid it was going to be a Flash intro that we’d have to wait through every time.

  4. xkcd today is quite relevant to this thread:
