I don’t know if this is good news or no news, but I noticed this morning that there has been no update from the EMU-AAUP and the update on the EMU web site says:
Monday, August 30
As of 9 p.m., negotiations remain under way. Further details will be provided when available.
By the way, I just heard this story on Michigan Public Radio. Doesn’t say much we don’t all already know, but I thought I’d pass it along.
Slight update:
Don’t know if this matters or not, but after I got back from walking my dog, I checked the EMU web site again, and it actually changed to something more vague:
Both bargaining teams continued to exchange proposals. Negotiations resume Tuesday, August 31.
Huh.
Oh, and BTW, I will be “live blogging” at the EMU-AAUP meeting at noon today.

The Michigan Radio piece lead-in, which they are running every hour I think or at least teasing on the hour, places a heavy emphasis on the fact that the EMU-AAUP has gone on strike every time an contract has expired. I wouldn’t say the coverage is biased against the union, exactly, but saying this again and again doesn’t help the ethos of the faculty.
Looks like an agreement:

While this is good news, I do believe that the membership next has to approve it–or else it’s back to the table. At least that’s how it works in our still-working-without-a-contract PT union.
