Mercury Transit
A somewhat rare (on average, 13 times a century) event takes place this Wednesday afternoon!
Mercury will make a transit across the Sun, and since it WILL be clear out, everyone is invited up to the rooftop of Sherzer to witness the event. We’ll have multiple scopes set up on the sun to view it, in both white light and H-Alpha. Members of the Astronomy Club at EMU and staff/faculty from the Physics & Astronomy Department will be on hand to answer your questions and show you the facility we are proud of.
Our Wonderful Facility
If you’ve never been on top of Sherzer before, this would be a great time to check it out. We have a great facility for Astronomy and are very proud of the equipment that we have. We’ve even impressed the University of Michigan Lowbrows with our facility. The Observatory is one of the best features of EMU and unfortunately there are still many people that don’t even know it exists.
Other Brief Notes and Future Events
Also, the Astronomy Club often has guest speakers at our weekly 7:30PM Thursday meetings in 402 Sherzer. On November 16th, we will have Mr. John Kirchoff of Rider’s Hobby Shop in Livonia giving a talk on Planetary CCD Imaging. The Observatory is also open on CLEAR Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday nights (following the meetings) during this semester.
